After Gettysburg

Staggering losses were suffered at Gettysburg: 28,063 Confederates and 24,049 Union troops. Lee returned to Virginia with a delayed pursuit by Meade. Over the course of the summer, Lee moved south and crossed the Rapidan River in September. Meade crossed the nearby Rappahannock River and occupied Culpeper. Gettysburg Photos
